Larry wrote the feature article for The Art of the 80’s Boston Band and Event Poster. He penned a remarkable visual and historical narrative of colorful band and event posters that became part of Boston’s urban landscape in the late 1970_80’s:

PHYSICAL GRAFFITI: XEROX-MANIA IN THE STREET, IN THE ‘ZINES, IN OUR HEADS

While sharing singing and songwriting duties in Human Sexual Response and The Zulus—as well as the short-lived LB and the Dells and Sapphire Martini—Larry Bangor also directed such films as Cinderella, The End of the World, Cha Cha and Cottontail, starring by many of the luminaries of Boston’s 70s and 80s music and art scene. Under the curatorial wing of Billy Ruane, he performed a difficult but rewarding eating endurance test at The Rat, and a surprisingly well-received all-Carly Simon solo show at The Middle East.  His farewell Boston appearance was as the eponymous hero of Jesus Christ Superstar.

After moving to New York City in 1992, Larry continued to compose songs, poems, plays, and opera librettos, some of which, including Hansel and Gretel and The Temptation of St. Valentine, have been modestly but successfully staged. His short play, The Happy Turkey, has become a perennial Thanksgiving favorite in Hudson, New York, where he now spends much of his time with his husband Ubaldo Leli.  Larry is currently employed at a psychiatric facility in mid-town Manhattan, learning to listen.

Used to love seeing the Zulus in Boston clubs. Larry had tons of energy and incredible stage presence. Would love to shake hands with you Larry! Taught my daughters how to play and took them on a tour of HSR and the Zulus online.
Every visit the Boston area? they’re fascinated! I’m in TX now, but go there annually for the 4th of July.

Hi Avery, Sorry to be replying two years late, but I don’t check my bio very often–obviously. I don’t live in Boston any longer, so it’s unlikely I’ll be there when you are. Unless, by chance, you make it to our long-planned, long-delayed (again for obvious reasons) Zulus reunion. We’re scheduled now for Sept 3 of this year, but I have the feeling we may have to reschedule once again. Who knows, it may even be July 4 next year.
In any case, thank you so much for taking the trouble to write. My apologies again for the very tardy response.
    Best,
    Larry

Larry-dawg, You silver haired geezers are crazy to play a packed-in club tomorrow like the ‘Dise with Delta V still lurking. Especially with the wild sweaty hi energy antics which will turn the crowd into a seething mass of mosh pitting humanity. Cancel the show and save your health. Went to see Wilco and Sleater-Kinney a few weeks ago at Pavillion in Boston with an old college buddy who drove up from New Haven. It was an Open air show and we were still glad to be sitting on an end seat way by the far aisle. Wore mask when walking in and out. CAncel your reunion or move it outside is my advice. Don’t be an old fool and host a super spreader event. Call it off, man!

I saw HSR in Minneapolis. I don’t remember what club or venue, but maybe it was Danceteria. I fell in love with you and tried to be your groupie, but you weren’t having it. I never forgot you. But never ran into you in NYC.

I saw you perform at The Club at WGBH around 1980. Met a great girl there. Also worked with your cousin, Joe S, at the time!
