Joanie Lindstrom has been listening to rock music as long as she can remember. While reading Creem and Trouser Press magazines back in the days of living in Springfield, VT, she found out about all the cool stuff going on in New York, bought Dolls and Iggy records at the shop in Brattleboro and continued the quest for music at UMass/Amherst where some of the Boston bands played. She learned to go out on her own since no one else cared about that kind of music Joanie is a survivor of the disco era.
After landing an apartment smack dab in Kenmore Sq. across from the Rat, there was no getting away from “the scene”, which she’s been involved with ever since. In 1987, she took over the Thursday slot of WMBR’s Late Riser’s Club and has refused to budge from the chair. Being involved with radio means needing to stay up on new music and her many travels take her to cool bars and record shops around the world.
Joanie reminds us that.. “There’s no reason to live in the past. While you can’t beat those first experiences of the early days of he scene, there’s still a lot of great music being made.”
