I was fortunate enough to be a teaching assistance in a documentary film/video class at the MIT Film/Video Section in the late 70’s and early 80’s. These were the days before portable video recorders became as common as a household appliance. I worked with Co-Producer Benjamin Bergery and several students, artists, and technicians from the Film/Video section using MIT’s equipment to film several live music performances by local Boston and some national/international bands.
I stopped filming live performances around 1982 and spent the next 20 years producing interactive media for museums, visitor centers, and theme parks, creating visitor experiences around the globe.
In 2002 I came back to the music and started up the Kinodv website. I started digiizing all the analog music video that I had saved and began to post clips on the site for public viewing. Today Kinodv has visitors from Boston, across the US, and surprisingly far away places in Europe and the South Pacific.
I’ve expanded the Kinodv website to include Flashpoint providing an interactive feature to examine the period these videos were created with a focus on the music, people, venues, and the art and culture of the times.

Hi Jan, How are you? I’m glad I stumbled upon your website. Many great memories during my time at MIT: programming wonderful classic cinema with you on MIT cable, and all the great people there at that time. I remember working with you on a shoot of The Specials but I don’t think the video saw the light of day. I’ll be in touch after I explore your great site more fully.

Hey Skip…good to hear from you! Those were the days and you can have some fun revisiting some of those times on this site. Regarding the Specials shoot, I remember that like it was yesterday. Someone and the Someones and the Fabulous Billygoons opened up that show. Having been partially responsible for commandeering the train wreak that was the Goons, I visited the Specials dressing room in between sets and they were having one hell of a nasty internal dog fight…all sorts of shit was being thrown around and the language even made a Goon like me turn red!!!…I decided not to enter that “War Room” to ask permission to shoot video of the Specials…so we didn’t roll any tape of their performance…still have a minor regret not having the cannolis to have wandered into that mess, because now they are one of the fish that got away…however Someone and the Somebodies I know where shot by Larry Gallagher and perhaps you had the nerve racking experience of shooting the Goons…you wouldn’t have been alone in shooting the Goons many people took shots at them, but the Fabulous Ones got the last laugh as that video of Fabulous Billygoons is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Museum of American History.
