I arrived in Boston, a couple months shy of my 19th birthday, in August of ’78. In September or October of that year I meet my future bandmates Phil Caruso and Terry Hanley who were from Pittsburgh and attending The Boston Architectural College with my roommate. We all had an interest in playing music and would spend a lot of nights in the various clubs around town. Eventually we wound up at The Rat and became inspired by the great Boston music scene. We’d been looking for a Bass player and out of the blue a old childhood friend and neighbor of mine, Jerry Channell showed up in Boston after attending Hampshire college. The Neats were born that winter in a Boston back bay basement apartment on Beacon and Berkeley St. In the spring of ’79 we all moved into a house together In Newton and really started practicing and writing songs. Our first Gig was a Christmas Party held at the Dorchester Yacht club in December of “79 followed by dates at The Honey Lounge, The Rat, and The Underground in early 1980. We continued to gig all in and around Boston over the next few years and ended up signing with Ace Of Hearts records in ’82 which released our first record soon after. The Neats continued to release records and tour North America through the rest of the 80’s. I still live, work and play music in the Boston area.
