“Well I would be going to both of them as I think most everybody did back in those days…”
I’d go to both! I went out a lot in those days—I was twenty-something, I knew just about everyone, and if I wasn’t on the guest list the covers charge was so cheap! We played at Spit as well, and I and my band mates, and Lizzy Borden and a few other fierce girls were all in this giant photograph right in the front entrance of Spit, looking deranged and dangerous, clutching and being imprisoned by a huge chain link fence. Whatever happened to that picture? I’d love to have a copy! So the Underground was slightly more casual and serious musically, but you definitely wanted to dress up and be seen at Spit. And that was fun.
